「僕達は正しいことをした。みなさんが気にかけてくれたからだ。そして今、僕達はみんな前に進もうとしている」と伝えた。

この発言に対しアンバーの広報担当者が声明を発表し、ジョニーの発言に強く反論した。

「ジョニー・デップが『前進する』と言うとともに、女性の権利は後退している。DV被害者に対する判決は、立ち上がり声を上げることを恐れるように、というメッセージなのです。」

アンバー側からこのような意見が出たのは、今回が初めてではない。1日の評決後には、アンバーが自身のInstagramでこのように綴っていた。

「今日の失望感は言葉では言い表せないほどです。元夫の不釣り合いな権力や影響力に立ち向かうには、山のような証拠があっても物足りなかったと胸を痛めています。」

そして「この判決が他の女性達にとって何を意味するかということに、より失望している。これは後退です」と加え、こう続けた。

「発言した女性が公に恥をかかされ、屈辱を受ける可能性があった時代に逆戻りさせられる。女性に対する暴力は、深刻に受け止めるべきという考えを、後退させているのです。」
