女王の孫であるウィリアム王子とヘンリー王子が肩を並べて歩いたのである。2人の隣には、従兄のピーター・フィリップスさんが並んでいた。

王室メンバーは軍服を着ていたが、ヘンリー王子とアンドルー王子、ピーターさんはモーニングスーツを着用していた。

バッキンガム宮殿からウェストミンスター宮殿へと続く沿道には多くの群衆が集まり、女王の棺が通り過ぎるのを静かに見守った。

一方、王室メンバーの妻達は別々の車でウェストミンスター宮殿に移動した。1台にはカミラ王妃とキャサリン妃が、もう1台にはメーガン妃とソフィー妃が一緒に乗り、バッキンガム宮殿を出発した。

ウエストミンスター・ホールでは合流し、ヘンリー王子とメーガン妃はウィリアム王子とキャサリン妃の後ろで、カンタベリー大主教とウェストミンスター首席司祭による礼拝に参列した。

ウィリアム王子夫妻とヘンリー王子夫妻は、10日にウィンザー城の門前にサプライズ登場して集まった人々を驚かせたばかりだ。

4人が公の場で並ぶ姿が見られたのは、2020年3月以来だった。ヘンリー王子は王室離脱後、ウィリアム王子と兄弟間の確執が囁かれており、昨年4月の故エディンバラ公フィリップ王配の葬列では2人の間に従兄のピーターさんが入って歩いた。

1997年に執り行われた母ダイアナ妃の葬列では、当時15歳だったウィリアム王子と12歳だったヘンリー王子が、ダイアナ妃の弟チャールズ・スペンサー氏を間に挟んで歩いていた。
